Schema Therapy is a special type of therapy that combines elements of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Psychoanalytic Therapy and Attachment Theory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

It is offered to people with long-standing difficulties that originated in childhood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

It aims to identify and heal unhelpful life patterns (known as \u2018schemas\u2019) which have occurred throughout a person\u2019s life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Some examples of common schemas include:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

• Emotional deprivation \u2013 a sense that no-one will ever understand you, or care about your needs\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
• Mistrust \u2013 a sense that other people will hurt, betray or reject you\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
• Social isolation \u2013 a sense that you don\u2019t fit in, or don\u2019t belong. It is believed that schemas develop when childhood needs are not met, and this leads to unhealthy life patterns<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
