There is no doubt that cluster headaches can be one of the most painful types of headaches due to their cyclical pattern or cluster periods. Cluster headache symptoms include intense pain around or in one eye on one side of the head in the middle of the night.

An episode of frequent headache attacks known as a cluster period can last a few weeks to months, usually followed by remission periods. Months and sometimes even years can pass without headaches during remission.
