Sleepwalking

Overview

Sleepwalking or somnambulism means getting up and walking around while asleep. Children are more likely to experience it than adults, and it usually disappears as they reach their teenage years. Sleepwalking can occur in isolated incidents, but these are not harmful or do not require treatment. Nevertheless, recurrent sleepwalking could indicate underlying sleep disorders.

In adults, sleepwalking may be confused with or appear alongside other sleep disorders and medical conditions.

It is possible that sleepwalking can cause physical injuries in sufferers and so people around them must take steps to prevent that.
